Moderator Andrzej Polaczkiewicz, Ph.D., from Polish Economic Society, noted in the beginning that in connection with the dynamic development of the Chinese economy, which translated into the global economic balance, Chinese economy experienced severe difficulties with energy deficit. China, which acted as an exporter in the early 90's, went through a stormy period and currently it relies more and more on import of oil and other sources of energy from world's markets. In 2030, 80 percent of demand of the Chinese economy for oil is expected to be satisfied from imports.
As NATO allies that are not in the European Union, Canada and Turkey share an interest in preserving the Alliance as the premier transatlantic body for defense dialogue and cooperation. On future membership, NATO as an institution must provide reasonable, pre-accession programs that strengthen security and encourage reform. Whether in the Balkans, Central Europe, Ukraine or Georgia, the Alliance should remain open to all those who share our values and are ready to contribute to Euro-Atlantic security.
