EUCIS-LLL, the European Civil Society Platform for Lifelong Learning, held its Annual Conference on May 14 in Leuven, Belgium. Representatives of European organisations active in the field of lifelong learning gathered to propose innovative ways to combat educational disadvantage.Keynote speeches and thematic workshops offered opportunities to discuss how civil society active in the field can better contribute to citizens well-being in times of economic difficulties. More specifically, the reflection focused on issues identified by the EU Strategic Framework for Education and Training such as the number of early school leavers and youth unemployment. EUROCLIO was represented by Joke van der Leeuw-Roord who chaired the final panel discussion which involved representatives from the European Commission and the Cyprus Representation to the EU. Blandine Smilansky also represented EUROCLIO and acted as a rapporteur for a workshop on challenges and opportunities for migrants within education systems. The EUCIS-LLL Conference showed again the crucial role of this organisation as a platform for exchanging experiences and influencing policy-making.
