From 12-13 April 2012 the organizers of the national history competitions within EUSTORY, the History Network for young Europeans, gathered at the premises of the Körber Foundation in Hamburg for their Annual General Assembly. The core topic of the annual conference was the link between democracy education/citizenship education and history. Professor Bèatrice Ziegler, Director of the Centre for Civic and History Education at the Centre for Democratic Education in Aarau, Switzerland, was the keynote speaker on the main conference topic. Her presentation was followed by a lively debate with the competition organizers from more than 20 European countries about the possible contribution history competitions can have for the development of active democratic citizenship within the young generation of Europe.
At the second day of the conference, the educators discussed about upcoming youth projects as well as about how to intensify the work with EUSTORY alumni both on the national and the international level. Another item on the agenda was a presentation of the current state of play of the HISTORIANA project, held by Bogdan Murgescu, Professor at the University of Bukarest, organizer of the Romanian history competition ISTORIA MEA and member of the HISTORIANA advisory board.
