On 30 March 2012, History Educators from all over The Netherlands, member of the Dutch History Teachers Association - VGN - joined a one-day symposium co-organised by the KNHG (Royal Dutch Historical Society) about the role and importance of endorsing more global perspective in the teaching and learning of history. The day was chaired by Prof. Dr. Maria Grever, Head of EUROCLIO's Partner organisation Centre for Historical Culture, affiliated to Erasmus University Rotterdam. She stressed the importance of such meetings between academic historians and active teachers, textbook authors and curriculum developers. A Key-Note lecture was done by Prof. Dr. Joris van Eijnatten, Utrecht University, who gave a vivid tale of the reason why he is implementing a world history curriculum with undergraduate history students, what the challenges are and he asked the participating teachers and academics to work closely together during this symposium to tackle the central question How does one teach World History? EUROCLIO Manager Jonathan Even-Zohar gave a presentation at a panel with Remco Raben (Utrecht University) and Vincent Loth (VGN) about the maturity of world historical research within the context of a grown need to do world history in Europe, as reflecting the "rise of asia".
