Somme and World War I : Questions for Education'. The symposium was attended by a large group comprising inter alia educationalists, historians, community educationalists, inspectors, researchers, teachers, and representatives from museums of history. The Symposium was opened by Maurice Manning of the Irish Human Rights Commission and Chancellor of the NUI. Keynotes were delivered by Diarmaid Ferriter (UCD), Keith Barton (Indiana University) and Richard Grayson (Goldsmiths, University of London). Papers were presented by Alan McCully (University of Ulster) and Fionnuala Waldron (St Patrick's College) and by Sinéad Murphy and Seán Pettis. The Symposium included a roundtable discussion on how Education should respond to the issues arising from the forthcoming commemorations, and closed with a panel discussion led by Paul Bracey (University of Northampton), Carmel Gallagher (University of Ulster/QUB), Mike Cronin (Boston College), and Brian Crowley (Pearse Museum).
